Chapter 7

Kenya sat in an all-staff meeting the next day called by Sydney and her team. They figured out what happened with her computer and who the culprit was. She was excited to find out but also anxious for the day to end. They had dinner plans and had been texting throughout the day and most of the night before. Sydney was still apologetic for the way she acted the other night but Kenya had already gotten over it. They had barely scratched the surface of what their relationship was going to be and she certainly understood the baggage of a previous relationship being a hindrance. It’s why she made sure to keep to herself until she was ready for what the universe would bring her. Her eyes landed on the door of the meeting room and saw Scott come in with coffee for them both as he sat in the seat she saved for him.

“I feel like we are about to see a reveal on a TV show or something,” he said running his hands over his blond buzz cut. He cut it the day before and couldn’t keep his hands out of it. Kenya never saw him with anything other than his tousled curls so the change was jarring.

“How are you liking the new cut?”

“I haven’t decided but I think it's working. I feel a change in me, like when you hear about women cutting their hair off when something big happens. I’ve always had that haircut, if I’m going to change it needs to be inside and outside.”

“Okay, whatever you need. Just don’t go cutting off the goatee,” Kenya said with a smile.

“Oh no, that’s my trademark even more than my hair. I’m changing, not losing my mind.”

Kenya laughed and watched the door as Sydney and some of her team came into the room. She was dressed in her usual sharp attire but she looked even more in charge than usual. She exuded confident energy and Kenya loved it, especially since it reminded her of how she was in the courtroom.

“Hey everyone, glad most of you could be here. I wanted to make this an all-staff meeting because we are going to talk about some new security measures that will be implemented to ensure everyone in the firm is secure when using their computers. But before we do that I wanted to go over the recent hacking issue you likely heard about.”

Sydney brought up some slides and explained how they came to find out about the hacking and how they looked for clues as to who did it. It was fascinating and Kenya had to admit that she was impressed with the presentation. It was concise and easy to understand for a layperson not familiar with IT work.

“We believe they were able to get into Kenya’s computer via an email message. Something she doesn’t even remember opening but it was sent to her office mail. Through that we were able to track it down to an IP address.
